Apna Ghar Day Centre

 Providing day care for elderly, disable, critical and vulnerable people. 


Apna Ghar (which means our home) provides day care for the elderly, disable, critical and vulnerable people predominantly from South Asian countries. Our main objective is to alleviate loneliness of people living on their own. The Centre is a multi- faith Centre and there is no discrimination on racial, cultural or religious grounds. People with no religious beliefs are also accepted. 
The management have a vision to make the Centre where elderly are valued, supported and can make valuable contribution to the running of the Centre. By attending the Centre, the users will be encouraged to build social and community connections. Elderly people will have greater resilience and ability to plan for, cope with and overcome the circumstances and life changes that can cause isolation. 
We offer a specialised range of services to support and encourage all users to be mobile and active. On numerous occasions, we have been praised for our outreach projects. 
We tailor the requirements to the individual's ability and our team of staff are multilingual and can converse in various South Asian Languages.
Apna Ghar provides outstanding nutritious meals using freshly prepared ingredients which enable us to provide Halal, Non Vegetarian, Vegetarian, Vegan and special dietary requirements. 
Additional to our day to day service, we also cater for parties of up to 100 guests. Transport

Apna Ghar has its own mini bus adapted to suit all users, especially those with extra care needs. 
Our vehicle has a tail lift enabling excellent wheel chair travel. 
the mini bus serves within close proximity i.e., catchment area. A ring and ride service is available to other users who require transport. there are also users who use taxi services to attend the Centre. 

 The Board

Management of the centre is vested in the Board of Trustees. The members have a wide range of experience which enables them to ensure day to day running of the centre in an amicable way. Staff members of the Centre ensure that the Day Centre has a warm homely welcoming feeling.

Staff
We have a dedicated team of staff consisting; Co- ordinator, Deputy Co- ordinator, Driver, Care Assistants, Support Workers, Cooks.
The Members of Management Committee provide administrative support on voluntary Basis.

Volunteers/ Work experience
We do encourage community members and users to work as volunteers. Students from Colleges are also welcome for work experience purposes. we will be holding a list of volunteers so that they could be called on ad hoc basis to work at the Centre. We will provide them with training in Social Care and encourage them to pursue a career in Social Care. 
Members Involvement
The Centre encourages harmony, togetherness and respect for all faiths and non faith users cultures. We actively support celebration of all religious and non religious festivals by the clients. 
We also celebrate Birthdays and any other joyous occasions which our members would like to share with all at the centre. 
The events are organised with consent of all parties to ensure that the event is happy and memorable.
We have in the past had guests including the Lord Mayor, Chief and Principal Officers from West Midlands Ambulance Service, West Midlands Fire Service, Councillors and consulates of foreign countries, are just to mention a few. 

History

Apna Ghar is a registered charity established in 1984, to meet cultural needs of people from Birmingham and neighbouring boroughs predominantly from South Asian Countries. 
The Centre originally operated on Clifton Road and moved to its present premises in 1995, with financial assistance from National Lottery to acquire the property.
